July 16, 2012, Deadline for Filing Campaign Finance Reports
(Deadline extended because of weekend)
Who is required to file?
Candidates, officeholders, and political committees (except for political committees filing monthly) are required to file the appropriate report. Legislative caucuses are required to file Form LEG. State chairs and county chairs of political parties that accept or maintain contributions from corporations or labor organizations are required to file Form PTY-CORP.
Period Covered: Unless you are a candidate or political committee involved in the primary runoff, the report due July 16, 2012, covers a period beginning on the day after the period covered by the last filed report and continuing through June 30, 2012. If this is the first campaign finance report that you are filing, the beginning day is the day the campaign treasurer appointment was filed.
Period Covered for Candidates and Political Committees Involved in Primary Runoff: If you are a candidate or political committee involved in the July 31 primary runoff election, your July semiannual report will cover from May 20 through June 30. For additional information on reports due before the July 31 primary runoff election, see “Reports Due Before 7/31 Runoff” on our website.
Electronic Filing: Persons filing with the Texas Ethics Commission must file reports electronically unless the person qualifies for the exemption. See “Electronic Filing” for details. NOTE: When filing electronically, please wait for a confirmation number. If you do not see a confirmation number, the report has NOT been filed.
To ensure proper and complete filing, use software Version 3.4.4. Go to “Electronic Filing” on the Ethics Commission’s website for information on downloading or upgrading your software. ATTENTION MAC USERS: The Commission’s online filing system does not support Safari version 3.1.2 or higher. Use a lower version of Safari or a different web browser, such as Firefox, to file your report.
Additional Information: Go to “Reporting Tips” on the Ethics Commission’s website for additional tips on filing properly.
Local Filers: Local candidates and officeholders who have a campaign treasurer appointment on file MUST file the semiannual report even if there is no activity to report. However, local officeholders required to file with local filing authorities who DO NOT have a campaign treasurer appointment on file AND who DO NOT exceed $500 in political contributions or political expenditures for the reporting period are not required to file the semiannual report.
Where To File: Candidates, officeholders, and political committees with questions regarding where to file campaign finance reports should refer to our website “Publications and Guides” to review the applicable campaign finance guide. Caucus reports and state chair and county chair reports of corporate or labor organization contributions are filed with the Texas Ethics Commission.
