Obtain your TEC Filer ID
For new statewide filers only

Persons that file with the Texas Ethics Commission include these statewide candidates and officeholders and political committees:

If you fall into any of these categories, your filing authority is the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC), and you will need a TEC Filer ID. If you do not fall into any of these categories, then you are a local filer and you file with a local filing authority. Local filers will not be given a TEC Filer ID.

TEC Filer IDs are also used for accessing the online TEC campaign finance filing application.

Follow these steps to obtain your TEC Filer ID:

STEP 1: File your completed Treasurer Appointment form with the Texas Ethics Commission.

STEP 2: Fill out Form SECURITY-CF. This form provides us with the information we need to set up your Filer ID. Please write neatly so that we can read your handwriting. Completed forms are considered confidential.

STEP 3: Deliver your completed Form SECURITY-CF to the Texas Ethics Commission. (You can submit your completed Form SECURITY-CF together with your completed Treasurer Appointment form if you wish.)

After TEC receives your Treasurer Appointment form (STEP 1), you will be issued a TEC Filer ID. After TEC receives your Form SECURITY-CF (STEP 3), TEC will send you an email with a link to set your password for your new TEC Filer ID so you can log into our online campaign finance filing application.

If you are a statewide candidate on the Texas 2018 primary or general ballot and you have not filed your Treasurer Appointment with the Texas Ethics Commission, TEC will issue you a Filer ID.
